It’s berry season – time to head to your favourite organic farm and get picking!
At the Green Mo’, we love berries. Not only because they’re incredibly tasty (truly Mother Nature’s candy!) but because they are fantastic superfoods – their nutrition content is off the charts. Vitamins… minerals… antioxidants… fiber… berries are seriously the ultimate nutrition bomb. Depending on the berry, benefits can include detoxification, aiding digestion, promoting heart health and so much more.
Our menu is full of berries – you’ll find them in many of our smoothies and desserts. They’re also featured in our Chia Jam which tops our Buckwheat Waffles and Gracious Grain Oatmeal (pictured).
And that leads us to the recipe!
Berry Chia Jam
Chia seeds give this jam a natural thickness, plus add even more nutrients, including omega 3 & 6 fatty acids. Chia seeds boost heart health, energy and metabolism. They are anti-inflammatory and promote healthy skin… the list goes on and on.
Chia seeds aside, this jam is still much healthier than conventional jams, which are usually packed full of refined white sugar.
- 4 cups of berries (e.g. strawberries, raspberries, blueberries or blackberries)
- 4 dates, pitted
- 2 tbsp maple syrup (optional, depending on how sweet you like your jam)
- 2 tbsp chia seeds
Place all the ingredients in a blender or food processor and mix until thick. Add a small amount of water if having difficulty blending, but be careful not to add too much. Enjoy on oatmeal, waffles and more.
