Amy Soranno – Animal Rights Activist Extraordinaire

Hot dogs don’t belong in hospitals. Plant-based, organic, whole food meals do.

We’ve launched a FrontFundr campaign to get our health-promoting food into hospitals, community centres, schools and beyond. FrontFundr is an online platform that facilitates equity crowdfunding – this means that you can invest in and own shares in our company. Check out our campaign here and let’s work together to make healthy, plant-based food accessible for those who need it most.

Throughout our campaign we’re sharing stories from some awesome people who are passionate about our mission of bringing a plant-based nutrition revolution to society. Today, meet Amy Soranno – animal rights activist and entrepreneur. Read on to discover why Amy believes in a plant-based future.

What inspired you to pursue a plant-based diet?

Initially, my dive into the plant-based world stemmed from a health motivation. In 2013 I developed a rare chronic illness; a mystery that traditional Western medicine was unable to solve. After exhausting dozens of treatment options, I was still severely unwell and began to research alternative methods of healing. I educated myself through documentaries and research studies, and concluded that going vegan was an absolute no-brainer! Shortly after making the switch, my motivation broadened and my new vegan diet transformed into a complete lifestyle change, based on a strong ethical stance for the animals and planet. Becoming vegan was the best decision I ever made — I am never looking back!

“I support any business that is 100% vegan. Taking that stance is extremely admirable and paves the way for a brighter, better and healthier future.”

Why is a ‘plant-based nutrition revolution’ important to you?

Although my medical condition is not a direct result of animal consumption, there are many illnesses (including the top deadly diseases for humans) that can be prevented, treated, and sometimes even reversed through a whole food, plant-based diet. I personally will do anything, whatever it takes, to heal my body and live as health-conscious as possible. Surely others want the same for their own health & livelihood; they just don’t yet understand the impact of their diet. As a result of animal consumption and agriculture, people are dying, the planet is dying, and animals are dying at an incomprehensible rate. It is crucial that we make better choices. I whole-heartedly believe that the plant-based nutrition revolution will change the world if people allow this positive change in their lives.

Why do you support The Green Mo’?

When I first heard about The Green Mo’ on Dragons’ Den, I was hooked! Now that I have become a customer, I am totally obsessed! I support any business that is 100% vegan. Taking that stance is extremely admirable and paves the way for a brighter, better and healthier future. The Green Mo’s mission, quality, customer service and variety — it’s all right up alley! It’s very rare to find a business that deeply values healthy food, and I truly appreciate what they have accomplished. As a vegan celiac, it’s also very refreshing to walk into The Green Mo’ knowing I can eat or drink anything on the menu!

What is your favourite Green Mo’ meal?

My favourite meal at The Green Mo’ in Whistler never fails to warm me up on a cold winter day: the Veggie Chili! It’s hearty, packed with flavour, and has everything you could ever want from a chili – right down to the brown rice and cashew sour cream!

“I whole-heartedly believe that the plant-based nutrition revolution will change the world if people allow this positive change in their lives.”

What does an ideal future for our society look like to you?

If I were to envision my ideal world, it would definitely be a vegan world. It would be a world void of suffering and injustice. Where animals and humans could coexist and live in harmony. Where disease was not the result of what we willingly put into our bodies. A world where the population was educated about their food and where it came from.

What do you think needs to happen for us to achieve that future?

I believe that the only way to achieve my ideal future is to BE the change, to never stop educating the world about its current atrocities and what we can do as a society to change them. Whether that’s the plight of animals, environmental destruction, or widespread, food-caused disease. Society in general is simply unaware of what truly happens as a result of our daily choices. Because of that, activism has become an integral part of my life. My goal is to show the truth to as many people as I possibly can.

Thank you for sharing, Amy! Our world is a better place because of inspiring animal rights activists like you.
